Migrating to G Suite Password Vaulted Apps - Frequently Asked Questions

Google acquired Bitium in 2017 with the goal of bringing some of the Bitium features and functionality, including support for password vaulted apps, to Cloud Identity, Google Cloud’s IDaaS solution. As of November 1, 2019 password vaulting functionality is generally available for Google Cloud customers. With this launch, we will also be starting the process to turn down existing Bitium functionality by January 31, 2020. Bitium will not be available after this date.

We have documented a list of FAQs should you have any questions regarding migrating off Bitium.

Q: When is Bitium turning down?

A: We will be turning down Bitium on January 31, 2020.

Q: What is Cloud Identity?

A: Google Cloud Identity is a unified identity, access, app, and endpoint management (IAM/EMM) platform that helps IT and security teams maximize end-user efficiency, protect company data, and transition to a digital workspace. For more details, please see https://cloud.google.com/identity/

Q: What Bitium functionality is available in Cloud Identity?

A: Many of the features in Bitium are already available in Cloud Identity, including SAML SSO for the supported catalog, AD/LDAP sync, and AD password sync. These features require manual configuration. Both your Bitium environment and your Cloud Identity environment can be used at the same time while you complete the manual configuration. Password vaulting functionality is also available in Cloud Identity as of Nov 1, 2019. There are additional features that are available in Cloud Identity that can be seen here.

Functionality Specific FAQs

Password Vaulting

Q: Will I have to do migration on my own or will it be handled seamlessly for me?

A Yes, customers are expected to handle migrations on their own. A migration tool has been added to Bitium to ease the migration of stored passwords. You can find information about the password migration tool here.

Q: What G Suite / Cloud Identity subscriptions will I need to get password vaulting functionality?

A: You either need to be on G Suite Enterprise, G Suite Enterprise for Education or Cloud Identity Premium edition to have access to password vaulting.

Q: What all is included in the migration?

A: Please refer to this link for details. Please note that only credentials that are shared with the organization will be migrated. Credentials that have not been shared with the organization will not be migrated to Cloud Identity, G Suite Enterprise or G Suite Enterprise for Education. Please see the support article for more information on password visibility.

Q: What if I need more time?

A: Unfortunately we won’t be able to extend the timelines. We recommend that you start your migration planning soon to avoid any data loss.

Q: Whom should I contact in case migration tool doesn’t work?

A: Please contact Bitium support should you need any help.

Q: Will all my apps be available in Google Cloud Identity, G Suite Enterprise or G Suite Enterprise for Education?

A: While we have ensured that most applications that are used by our customers are available for migration there might be few applications that will not be available in the new solution. The migration tool will indicate the same to you.

Q: Will custom app functionality be available in Google Cloud Identity, G Suite Enterprise or G Suite Enterprise for Education?

A: Yes, you will be able to configure custom applications. Please refer to this support article for more details.

SAML applications

Q: Will SAML Apps be migrated by default?

A: No - due to the nature of how SAML is configured, you will need to set these up yourself in G Suite Enterprise, G Suite Enterprise for Education or Cloud Identity Premium. Please refer to this support article for more details.

Key Vault

Q: Will key vault be available at launch?

A: After careful consideration, we have decided to not build key vault functionality in Google Cloud Identity for now. We recommend that you export your key vault items before we turn down Bitium.

HRIS Directory Integration

Q: Will HRIS integration be migrated?

A: As of November 2019, G Suite / Cloud Identity does not have HRIS integration functionality available. However, our product roadmap does include HRIS integration with Namely and Bamboo (planned for 2020).

AD/LDAP Integration

Q: What are the alternatives for AD/LDAP integration in Google?

A: Please refer to support articles on Google Cloud Directory Sync and Secure LDAP to start the set-up.

Apps Dashboard

Q: Is there an Apps Dashboard that my users can use in G Suite/Cloud Identity?

A: Yes, your users can use G Suite Apps Dashboard to access all of their apps.
